IN view of the criticism1 that a curve of relative growth derived from contemporaneous data on many individuals of all sizes (population curve) may not apply to actual growth in the individual, as is frequently assumed4, data on the latter are much to be desired2. From careful measurements on series of moults of individual Carcinus mœnas, populations of which have been much used for relative growth studies3,4, the following conclusions seem to be justified.
