USING a stout silica tube capable of standing pressures up to 50 atmospheres as the container, I have successfully photographed the Raman spectra for a number of gases. Perhaps the most interesting case studied is that of acetylene; wave-number shifts 1974 and 3372 are observed in agreement with the vibration numbers 1975 and 3365 recently derived by Mecke1 from a study of the ultra-violet absorption spectrum.
