
I HAVE just received last week's issue of NATURE from England, and find in it some remarks by Prof. Asa Gray on an article of mine which appeared in the Contemporary Review. As he appears to solicit a further statement of my views, I shall supply a brief explanation of those passages in my article to which he refers.
