Applying Six Sigma Techniques to Training Programs

Abstract

Six Sigma has been a popular business concept since Bill Smith of Motorola popularized it in the mid-1980s and Jack Welch of GE made it a household name in the 1990s. A recent search on Amazon.com yielded 561 books with Six Sigma in the title published since 1980. Basically, Six Sigma is a process for quantifying business performance in terms of the variability of product, process, or service quality. The goal of this approach is to reduce the overall number of defects as defined by stakeholder (customer or organizational) expectations.
