The chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality defended the Bush administration's initiatives on a wide range of environmental issues, including climate change, at a 22 January speech in Washington, D.C.CEQ chair James Connaughton said that economic growth is the solution, rather than the problem, for dealing with a wide range of environmental issues. He said that as a society advances along an affluence curve, it is better able to engage in environmental protection measures.
