Abstract

Mit Chorea (griechisch: «Tanz») bezeichnet der Neurologe unwillkürliche, unregelmäßige, kurzzeitige, nichtrepetitive und zufällig verteilte Muskelkontraktionen mit Bewegungseffekt. Sie treten abrupt auf und können alle Körperregionen erfassen, sich aber auch von einer Körperregion zur anderen ausbreiten. Wichtigste Form der Chorea ist die hereditäre Chorea Huntington, die im Längsschnitt nahezu immer ein gemischt neurologisch-psychiatrisches Gepräge hat. Chorea ist auch Symptom weiterer neurodegenerativer oder anderer seltener und dann meist erblicher (Stoffwechsel-)Erkrankungen. Sie tritt zudem symptomatisch bei unterschiedlichen Grundkrankheiten auf. Chorea ist in diesen Fällen medikamentös meist befriedigend zu kontrollieren.
