Current design of the fluidized bed scrubber (FBS), otherwise known as the Turbulent Contact Absorber or the Mobile Bed Contactor, is based on experience and rules of thumb. In this paper published equations on hydrodynamics and mass transfer are reviewed. From the equations a logical design procedure for the FBS Is proposed. A specimen calculation is presented to illustrate the design procedure.
