
On December 7, 1941, the fact that only 750 pints of plasma were available for 960 Pearl Harbor casualties shocked the country into the realization of its value and need. The obtaining of blood donations from citizens was taken over on a national basis by the American Red Cross, and so efficiently has this part of the project functioned that quotas have been exceeded all along. Dried blood plasma is not an overnight miracle, but the result of years of observation and experimentation.
