The superficial musculoaponeurotic system in rhytidoplasty
The surgical procedures on the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) of the face, introduced in 1976 and 1977, revolutionized the surgeries for facial rejuvenation. Since 1979, I have used these techniques, improved and refined my skill, and recommend SMAS for most of the patients who undergo rhytidoplasty. This article describes in detail how and why to perform SMAS surgeries.
