Endoscopic therapy has had a significant impact on the management of bleeding peptic ulcers and varices. Therapy is effective at stopping immediate bleeding and has been shown to improve key patient outcomes. Ulcer therapy has few significant complications, whereas variceal therapy is fraught with serious complications, which are reviewed.
