The pancreas can be readily identified in virtually all adult patients by high resolution computed tomography. However, meticulous technique must be followed, including the use of both oral and intravenous contrast media, thin-slice scan thickness with small area of reconstruction, and dynamic (rapid sequence) scanning techniques.
