Abstract

Klein mentions a project to save the Great Barrier Reef 20 kilometers out at sea. The thriving wetlands will provide a buffer for the Great Barrier Reef. Greening Australia is now working with other landowners in the area to restore 200 hectares of coastal wetlands. Its modeling suggests such measures could cut sediment pollution by 75% in key areas. This would go a long way towards meeting the Australian government's target of halving sediment load in the Great Barrier Reef by 2025.
