Since sexual disorders can be the result of genetic, hormonal, or gonadal degects, all three components have to be considered in the diagnosis and therapy of infants with ambiguous genitalia. The classification provided should enable the physician to initiate the most appropriate work-up, leading to an early diagnosis and to a decision as to future sex determination.
