Venous reconstructive bypass operations may be expected to result in improvement in approximately 75 per cent of properly selected patients. Such patients are usually those in whom venous recanalization has failed after phlebitis. A smaller group of patients have extrinsic occlusion because of tumor. Venous bypass has a low complication rate and relatively good results.
