We have investigated the relative stability of a number of p(1◊1), c(2◊2) and p(2◊2) surface reconstructions on the (100) CoSi 2 surface as deposited on Si(100). The relative stability of these reconstructions as a function of whether the growth conditions are either Si rich or Co rich is also investigated. We show that the most stable surface under all growth conditions is a c(2◊2) reconstructed Si-terminated surface. © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
