Summary A case of congenital obstructive jaundice in a female child, dying atthe age of eleven months and twenty-nine days of age, is reported. Exploratory laporatomy done when the patient was ten weeks old revealed a congenital obliteration of the cystic, hepatic, and common ducts, and a nonfunctioning gallbladder. Biopsy of the liver at the time of the laparotomy and pathologic changes in the liver at autopsy are described. The long duration of life in the case presented is ascribed in part, to the hepatogenic functions of organs other than the liver and to a high carbohydrate diet.
