Abstract Autonomous vehicles have been of particular interest in the world for more than half a century. Recently, one can even observe the intensification of research and implementation works on this type of vehicles and transport systems. In the article the authors will refer to the following problems: Definitions of the different types of autonomy with regard to vehicles and transport systems, Issues of safety and certification of autonomous transport systems and required infrastructure; Expected benefits of this type of vehicles in cities, and specific solutions for people with disabilities Concepts of various solutions taking into account Polish plans and the original concept of the Polish system "Prometheus". The paper will outline the proposed Polish technologies, software for calculations in the area of traffic engineering and will show Polish pre-prototypes with constructional details.
