The study of the ecology and evolution of parasites has grown in popularity over the past few decades, with an increasing number of scientific articles, popular science books and even TV shows dedicated to the subject. This new interest has also led to an expansion of the parasitology textbook options, from classic texts full of taxonomic and life-cycle descriptions, to others that attempt to explain host–parasite dynamics in terms of ecology and evolution [1,2].
