Microstructures of dual-phase steels are made up of mostly ferrite along with some bainite or martensite. An alloy was designed theoretically to produce a similar microstructure directly during cooling after solidification. Although the dual-phase microstructure was achieved, the tensile properties of the cast alloy were found not to be satisfactory. Some steps that may help improve these properties have been suggested.
