Abstract

Resumen: El dolor musculoesquelético (DME) es una de las causas principales de dolor crónico no oncológico y de discapacidad laboral. Tiene una gran prevalencia y está subdiagnosticado. En este artículo se analizan las causas de DME entre las que destacan la fibromialgia (FBM) y el sindrome dolor miofascial (SDM). Se comparan ambas patologías y se describen las principales causas y características, que pueden facilitar su distinción por un médico no especialista. Se analizan las causas de la FBM, su etiología, características clínicas y las formas de manejo según consensos de guías clínicas. Se describen características clínicas del SDM como la causa más frecuente de dolor regional persistente y se evalúa el manejo farmacológico y no farmacológico adecuados para evitar la cronificación del dolor. Abstract: Musculoskeletal pain is one of the main causes of chronic non cancer pain and work disability. Has a great prevalence and is underdiagnosed disease. In this article we analyze the causes of musculoekeletal pain, among those fibromyalgia and myofacial pain syndrome. This article compares both pathologies and describes their main causes and characteristics that can facilitate their distinction by a non specialist doctor. It analyse the causes of fibromyalgia, their etiology, clinical characteristics and the management according to consensus of clinical guides. It describes clinical characteristics of myofacial pain Syndrome as the most frequent cause of persistent regional pain and the pharmacological and non pharmacological treatments in order to avoid chronification of pain.
