Las manifestaciones clínicas son esenciales para el diagnóstico de la condición, no siendo necesario los test específicos de laboratorio. La reducción del sobrepeso y el estilo de vida saludable son las medidas terapéuticas más importantes, reservándose el uso de metformina a los casos con alto riesgo de desenlaces clínicos.SUMMARYInsulin resistance is a prevalent condition commonly associated with unhealthy lifestyle. Such condition affects several metabolic pathways, which increases the risk of abnormalities at different organ and systems level. Clinical findings are essential for the diagnosis of the condition, not being necessary blood testing. Weight reduction in obesity and acquisition of a healthy lifestyle are the most important therapeutic tool. Metformin should be prescribed to individuals at high risk of disease according to clinically validated outcomes.
