RECONSTRUCCIÓN DE TEJIDOS BLANDOS DE LA EXTREMIDAD SUPERIOR

Abstract

This article focuses mainly on the management of soft tissue injuries to the fingers, hand and wrist. This review describes the basic principles involved in the initial evaluation and description of an injury to the upper extremity. It also discusses the decision making process of flap selection based on the characteristics of the defect including size, shape, and location, the availability of donor sites, and the goals of reconstruction. We also want to highlight the fact that a multidisciplinary team composed of multiple specialists, such as plastic surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists and primary care physicians is required to successfully manage an upper extremity injury.
