
AbstractThis paper presents a 3D FEM model to predict the thermal behaviour of a high speed motor spindle. This model allows a transient simulation which considers complex boundary conditions like heat sources as well as contact and convective heat transfer between spindle parts. Verification experiments are implemented on a test spindle. Compared with the measured data, it is shown that the developed model can predict well the thermal behaviour of the test spindle.
