Abstract

Einleitung Es waren Bürgerinnen und Bürger, die sich vor über 30 Jahren aufmachten, um etwas zu verändern im Umgang mit schwerstkranken und sterbenden Menschen, die das Sterben wieder in das Leben zurückholten und ein Sterben in Würde ermöglichen wollten. Seither hat es einen dynamischen Ausbau der hospizlichen und palliativen Versorgungsstrukturen und der dazu notwendigen Rahmenbedingungen gegeben. Das bürgerschaftliche und ehrenamtliche Engagement hat hierzu entscheidend beigetragen und ist auch weiterhin wesentliches Element der Hospiz- und Palliativarbeit.
