
In this issue of Molecular Cell, Bandyra et al. (2012) describe how a bacterial sRNA can lead to degradation of an mRNA by pairing within the coding region of the mRNA; the 5' monophosphate end of the sRNA activates RNase E, leading to rapid cleavage of the paired mRNA.
