ResumenEl ultrasonido ocular es un estudio dependiente del operador. Un buen estudio ecográfico debe tener como base el conocimiento de la anatomía y fisiología normales y de los cambios producidos en diferentes enfermedades, así como los cambios tras una cirugía ocular o trauma. El conocimiento de los fenómenos físicos producidos por el ultrasonido es la base para entender y reconocer la presencia de artefactos en el ultrasonido ocular. Esta revisión tiene como objetivo hacer un recuento de los artefactos que pueden ocasionar confusión al interpretar una imagen ecográfica, así como explicar la base física en la que se basan, reduciendo de esta manera los errores de interpretación y diagnósticos.AbstractOcular ultrasound is an operator-dependent study. A satisfactory ultrasonography study should be based on the knowledge of normal anatomy and physiology and the changes produced in different pathologies, as well as the changes proceeding after eye surgery or trauma. The knowledge of physical phenomena produced by ocular ultrasound is fundamental to comprehend and recognize the presence of artifacts in the ocular ultrasound. The aim of this review is to delineate the artifacts that could cause confusion when interpreting and ultrasound image, as well as to explain the physical fundamentals in which are based, thereby reducing interpretation and diagnostic errors.
