Cáncer y tromboembolia venosa: una antigua asociación con nuevos escenarios

Abstract

La asociacion entre cancer y tromboembolia venosa (TEV), denominada sindrome de Trousseau es bien conocida desde la primitiva descripcion por parte de Armand Trousseau en 1865. Curiosamente, el propio Trousseau se autodiagnosticaria este sindrome 2 anos mas tarde; poco tiempo despues fallecio por un cancer gastrico. Sin embargo, en los ultimos anos se ha asistido a un renovado interes en el estudio de las multiples aristas que conforman esta interesante asociacion. Como consecuencia de estas investigaciones, se ha profundizado en el conocimiento de los mecanismos que contribuyen a la aparicion de un estado de hipercoagulabilidad en las enfermedades neoplasicas. Ademas, hoy se sabe que la asociacion entre cancer y sistema hemostatico tiene un caracter bidireccional: por un lado, las enfermedades tumorales activan el sistema hemostatico, pero al mismo tiempo el sistema hemostatico parece ejercer un papel clave en muchos de los mecanismos implicados en la tumorogenesis y diseminacion a distancia. Tambien desde el punto de vista clinico la asociacion TEVcancer presenta ciertas particularidades, que se resumen a continuacion:
