Afecta a practicamente todas las esferas de la salud de las personas, y la expresion de comorbilidades es muy variada. Esto hace que sea crucial la individualizacion y la actitud activa en el diagnostico, asi como la valoracion de la propia obesidad y de sus comorbilidades. La evolucion natural de la enfermedad implica que la identificacion y actuacion temprana pueda evitar o aminorar la evolucion de las comorbilidades y, en ultimo termino, el impacto en eventos fatales, la calidad y la disminucion de la expectativa de vida. La alta prevalencia que ha alcanzado en los paises desarrollados, asi como las tasas que esta obteniendo y la incidencia que tiene en paises en vias de desarrollo hace que la obesidad sea un importante problema global. A nivel social y economico, la obesidad tiene grandes implicaciones, lo cual ha provocado que sea una de las principales amenazas de la salud publica y del mantenimiento del equilibrio de los sistemas sanitarios. EnglishObesity is a multifactorial condition, whose etiopathogenesis and evolution are influenced by multiple situations interacting among them. It affects almost all scopes of people's health status, being the range of comorbidities very wide. Customization, active attitude, obesity and comorbidities assessment are crucial diagnostic factors. Taking into account the natural history of the disease, the early identification and management may avoid or lessen the evolution of comorbidities and, ultimately, reduce fatal events, improve quality of life and increase life expectancy. The high prevalence reached in developed countries, as well as the prevalence and incidence rates that it is obtaining in developing countries, have made obesity a major health worldwide problem. As consequence of its social and economic implications, obesity has become one of the main threats to public health and to maintaining the balance in health systems.
