Abstract

Resumen La ventilacion mecanica no invasora (VMNI) se define como un soporte ventilatorio externo administrado sin necesidad de intubacion orotraqueal. Se ha generalizado su uso debido al progresivo aumento de sus indicaciones, existiendo multiples modalidades de VMNI que mejoran la adaptacion a las diferentes patologias causantes de insuficiencia respiratoria aguda, tanto hipoxemica como hipercapnica, y de insuficiencia respiratoria cronica. Non-invasive mechanical ventilation (NIMV) refers to the administration of ventilatory support without using orotracheal tube. Because its indications are growing its use has become widespread, improving its adaptation to the different pathologies causing acute (hypoxemic and hypercapnic) and chronic respiratory failure.
