Manufacturing Issues of Polypropylene Nanocomposite by Melt Intercalation Process

Abstract

Abstract Polymer nanocomposites are gaining interest among the researchers due to their widespread applications. Melt intercalation method with the aid of twin screw extruder was used for the production of polymer nanocomposites. This paper covers the detailed discussions about the manufacturing of Closite30B reinforced with polypropylene by controlling different process parameters (screw speed, temperature profile, etc.,) in twin screw extruder with Elvaloy AC 3427 as a compatibilizer. The manufactured polypropylene nanocomposites structure formed in the resulting composites was studied using X-ray diffraction, which shows an intercalated structure and Field emission scanning electron microscope shows a uniform dispersion of Cloiste30B.
