Abstract Major changes are expected in the space environment due to the imminent launch of NewSpace (sometimes Space 2.0) systems, particularly large low Earth orbit (LEO) constellations that will change the space operations environment. This new activity could overwhelm current space flight safety processes. However, there are many encouraging signs that government, industry, and the space community are acting to address these issues although additional steps remain. These efforts are described, and some additional steps and issues that remain to be explored are discussed.
