Tick-borne encephalitis virus in Mongolia

Abstract

Summary. In this work we present the results of the study of main biological characteristics of TBEV in Mongolia. *e genetic characteristics of Mongolian TBEV indicate that Far Eastern and Siberian subtypes are most common in Mongolia and viral populations are closely related to TBEV from neighbor regions of Russia – Buryat Republic and Irkutsk Region. TBEV isolated in Mongolia are able to e+ectively reproduce in mammalian cells and are both neurovirulent and neuroinvasive for model animals. Besides this the TBEV in Mongolia is proven to cause fatal encephalis in humans. *e highest risk of human infection with TBEV in Mongolia is the feature of Selenge and Bulgan aimags. Key words: tick-borne encephalitis virus, Mongolia.Клещевой энцефалит (КЭ) – это инфекционное за-болевание, распространенное в лесной и лесостепной зоне Северной Евразии. Возбудитель КЭ – вирус, кото-рый передается человеку при укусе иксодовых клещей. Ежегодно в мире происходит порядка 10000 новых слу-чаев заболеваний КЭ [7].В настоящее время на основе фенотипических и ге-нетических различий выделяют 3 субтипа ВКЭ – дальне-восточный (ДВ ВКЭ), сибирский (СИБ ВКЭ) и европей-ский (ЕВР ВКЭ). Основным переносчиком первых двух субтипов является таежный клещ Ixodes persulcatus , ко-торый распространен в лесной и лесостепной зоне Азии и Восточной Европы, вплоть до Прибалтики. Основной переносчик вирусов Европейского субтипа – клещ I. ricinus , обитающий в лесах Западной и Восточной Европы до Урала [8].В Монголии ВКЭ выявлен в 80-х гг. ХХ века [5], с 2001 г. начата официальная регистрация заболеваемо-сти населения КЭ, при этом в 2005-2008 гг. отмечено 75 случаев заболеваний людей. В 1998-2005 гг. охаракте-ризованы природные очаги КЭ в Северной Монголии, а также проведены работы по идентификации ВКЭ в клещах I. persulcatus [1] Однако до настоящего времени очень мало известно о биологических и патогенетиче-ских характеристиках ВКЭ, циркулирующих в природ-ных очагах Монголии. В данной работе мы приводим результаты изучения основных биологических характе-ристик ВКЭ, обитающих на территории Монголии.
