
A 30-year-old man stepped on a crown-of-thorns starfish and sustained penetrating injuries to his foot by the spines of the starfish. Radiographs confirmed the presence of radioopaque foreign body spines in his foot. The significance of performing early surgical excision of the spines in the theatre under anaesthesia using radiographic control is stressed in this case report.
