Abstract

Resumen Diferentes estudios epidemiologicos muestran la relacion que existe entre osteoporosis, enfermedad cardiovascular y la mortalidad asociada a esta. Aunque tradicionalmente estas enfermedades se han considerado como procesos independientes relacionados con la edad, como se muestra en este trabajo de revision, cada vez existe una evidencia mas solida que confirma que ambas entidades comparten mecanismos fisiopatologicos. Entre ellos destacan la relacion entre proteinas de origen oseo como la osteocalcina y la osteoprotegerina con la patologia vascular. Ademas, recientemente se han producido diversos avances en el conocimiento de la relacion entre metabolismo oseo y metabolismo energetico, lo que pudiera tener implicaciones en la patologia cardiovascular.
