La hiperuricemia como factor de riesgo cardiovascular y renal

Abstract

Resumen En los ultimos anos esta creciendo la evidencia de la asociacion de la hiperuricemia como factor de riesgo cardiovascular y renal. Son varios los trabajos epidemiologicos que lo relacionan con el desarrollo futuro de insuficiencia renal, perdida de funcion renal, hipertension arterial, eventos cardiovasculares y mortalidad cardiovascular y global. El mecanismo propuesto es a traves del dano endotelial. El tratamiento de la hiperuricemia con alopurinol podria tener efectos beneficiosos. Aunque escasos todavia, ya hay resultados positivos tanto en el enlentecimiento de perdida de funcion renal, disminucion de presion arterial y de los eventos cardiovasculares.
