This viewpoint deals with the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) adopted by the World Health Assembly in 2001. We argue that there is a need to revise and update the ICF, starting from its conceptual model. The scope of the viewpoint goes beyond the disability field as it argues for changes to the ICF that could enhance wider usages in health and policy.
