
Summary As the EU ban on the outdoor use of three neonicotinoids is about to come into force, a study shows a new alternative pesticide has similar sublethal but harmful effects. A good solution to the dilemma of distinguishing between useful insects and pests may not exist, but at least the amounts of pesticides released can be reduced. Michael Gross reports.
