Dependence of the clustering properties of galaxies on galaxy age

Abstract

Abstract From the Main galaxy data of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 10 (SDSS DR10), we construct two volume-limited samples with the luminosity −20.5 ≤ M r ≤−18.5 and −22.5 ≤ M r ≤−20.5, respectively, and explore the dependence of the clustering properties of galaxies on galaxy age by cluster analysis. Statistical analyses in two volume-limited Main galaxy samples can reach the same conclusions: young galaxies preferentially form isolated galaxies, close pairs and small groups at all scales, whereas old galaxies preferentially inhabit dense groups and clusters.
