Abstract: Retained foreign bodies after surgery are a potentially serious complication. The case is presented of a 63year-old female with an image with increased density in the plain chest X-ray after a previous operation in the right axillary region three years earlier. On re-operation a fibrotic mass was removed. This was a surgical sponge with a radio-opaque marker. Problems related to retained foreign bodies are discussed.
