Abstract The luminescence of Cd(II) in isolated oxidic and sulphuric complexes is compared with the luminescence of cadmium compounds. In all cases the optical transition is of the metal-to-ligand charge transfer type. Specific concentration effects and the luminescence of small clusters are also discussed.
