Abstract 1. Pentobarbital and secobarbital caused changes in resting properties of leech neurones attributable to reduced potassium conductance, but several other barbiturates had no effect. 2. All barbiturates tested prolonged the action potentials of the same cells. 3. For pentobarbital both actions were much more evident at pH 6.8 than at 8.8.
