Abstract Color sensitivity of the superior colliculi was investigated in squirrel monkeys. Evoked potentials were recorded from the colliculi in response to red and blue light stimulation. Color sensitivity of the superior colliculus was indicated by: differences in latency of potentials evoked by different color stimuli, differences in amplitude of potentials, differences in waveform of potentials and relative changes in amplitude and waveform of potentials evoked by red and blue stimuli at different locations within the colliculus. The color sensitive area of the colliculus appears to be the strata opticum and intermedium, especially the enlarged portion in the posterior half of the colliculus.
