
Abstract The fibrinolytic activity of odontogenic cysts as measured by a semiquantitative histochemical method proved higher than in normal oral mucosa. Since tissue plasminogen activator is considered to play an important role in local hemostasis and wound healing, the finding of high fibrinolytic activity in the cysts may help to explain the occasional occurrence of hematoma following extirpation of a cyst.
