Visualizing the mandibular ramus in panoramic radiography

Abstract

Abstract Radiographic images of the adult mandibular ramus with its condyloid and coronoid processes are frequently distorted on Panorex radiographs taken in the conventional manner. This distortion is due to the relationship of the ramus to the focal trough and to the direction of the x-ray beam. A technique for repositioning the head to improve this relationship and minimize the distortion is presented.
