Abstract This report describes a procedure for analyzing glucuronic and iduronic acids using the Technicon automated sugar chromatography system. Glueronic and iduronic acids of standard samples of glycosaminoglycans have been analyzed after hydrolysis by formic acid. The method has been applied to quantitate uronic acids in chondroitin sulfates and dermatan sulfate mixtures obtained by Dowex 1 Cl − column fractionation of glycosaminoglycans from aortas of different animal species. The results are in good agreement with those obtained by the gas-liquid chromatographic technique.
