Abstract The indications for, and the technique of, internal fixation of pathologic fractures due to metastatic cancer have been reviewed. The benefit of such treatment to the patient and the socioeconomic factors relating to this treatment have been discussed in detail. The value of prophylactic internal fixation for certain lesions involving particularly weightbearing bones and the indications for such treatment have been presented.
