A prospective study was conducted with ultrasonography in a group of 48 patients who presented with significant premature uterine activity. The study attempted to characterize the ultrasonographic signs exhibited by the cervix and lower uterine segment in conjunction with preterm labor. These signs, their frequency of occurrence, and possible clinical significance are described.
