Abstract The occurrence of a myxoma of the left atrium of the heart is reported. Embolic phenomena which have been rarely encountered in previously reported cases were most prominent in the clinical picture of this case. An attempt is made to evaluate the role of organizing thrombi in the pathogenesis of cardiac myxomas. The conclusion is they play little if any part in the development of such tumors.
