In literature, the reported mortality of posthepatectomy liver failure is <5 % and morbidity is 15-30 %. Around 3-8 % of patients develop liver failure after major hepatic resection. The objective of the study was to provide current definitions and managing posthepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) as per severity and ISGLS grading.A systemic search of pubmed indexed articles was done and relevant articles were selected to formulate latest guidelines for PHLF.We were able to make an algorithm for standardizing management so as to identify and treat PHLF as early as possible.
