This article examines how the strength of a finished combined filament is affected by the interaction between its rod-shaped component and its twisting component. It is argued that it is important to optimize the number of twists. The character of the changes which take place in the filament’s geometric parameters during tensile loading is also discussed, and a formula is proposed for calculating the strength of combined filaments. The calculated values of the breaking load agree well with values obtained experimentally.
